Hydraulic actuators are commonly used to actuate process isolation and control valves for the most demanding applications. Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs) provide hydraulic pressure in order to move these actuators. A basic HPU can be specified to operate a valve open and closed. Depending on its intended function, fail position, stroke speed and method of operation, there are design options tailored to meet these requirements. This presentation will discuss considerations for configuration, testing, safety, environment and maintenance as it applies to hydraulic power units.
